The 2007 Short Short A-Z Story Competition invited stories of exactly 26 words with each word strictly following the
alphabetic sequence.
Entries came from all around the world and attempting to pick my top three was extremely difficult. However,
the winning entries have been chosen on their ability to weave together a fairly logical and entertaining tale within
the constraints of the competition.
I would like to thank everyone who took the time and effort to enter the competition. It is actually a lot harder
than most realise to write such a short short story and is, in many ways, tougher than writing something much longer.
Therefore, all the entrants should be congratulated for the stories they have entered.

1st Place:
LOST IN TRANSPLANTATION a case of rejection by Keith
Souter
Aorta burst causing deadly exsanguination! Foreign gutter headlines implied jealousy killing, leaving mistress needing
oxygen. Police questioned rivals surgical technique. Unaccepted vessel was xenograft, yammered Zurgeon.
(Keith Souter is a part time family doctor who lives within arrow-shot of one of Englands historic castles. He writes
novels in three genres, having honed his writing on a prescription pad for over quarter of a century.)
2nd Place:
MISSION AMBUSHABLE by John M Floyd
Assassin
Bob Carter deftly eased forward, gun hidden in jacket, keeping low, making not one peep. Quietly Robert said, to unaware victim:
"Welcome. Xpected you." ZAP.
(John Floyd's credits include The Strand Magazine, Grit, Woman's World, Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, and
Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. His first book, Rainbow's End, was published in 2006.)
3rd Place:
A bland chap described events, forecasting gory horoscopes. I just kept laughing. My natural opinion provoked quite rabid
scorn. Then, utilised violence, which xplains your zodiac!
(An Australian research scientist with an eye on writing. He looks after a short stories group on RedBubble.com,
and has a couple of writing competition wins.)
